Summer 2020 Update and Registration !

Post date: Jun 18, 2020 11:10:02 PM

I wanted to send an update on the plan for the Rochester Nordic Racing summer program. I know many athletes have been anxiously awaiting to return to organized group training. I have been reaching out to coaches both regionally and nationally to seek feedback and gain an understanding of who, what, when, and where everyone is at in regards to training this summer.

Currently we are planning to start on Monday June 29th (NY Phase 4 allowing of recreation) from 6-7:30 PM. Practice will be on Monday and Wednesday evenings June 29th – August 12th

We will once again have 4 coaches in rotation Craig Mattern, Matt Bellizzi, Mark Armbruster, and Jason Hettenbaugh.

As you can imagine state and government guidelines are dictating what programs are able to offer. Currently NY state is in Phase 3 of reopening and is allowing groups of 25 or less to gather as long as they are following social distancing guidelines. Guidelines and recommendations are evolving and changing as more data becomes available.

I’m dedicated to not only providing a safe training environment that will follow social distancing guidelines but also an environment that is focused on developing U23-U14 athletes in the greater Rochester area.

Even though the state is allowing groups of 25, I plan to limit training groups to 10 or less. These groups will be based on ability. Each group will remain together throughout the summer and coaches will rotate through the groups based on the workout of the day.

I’m sure many of you will have questions regarding how practice will look and how I plan to follow current guidelines. In addition, I am monitoring and following all of the recommended USOC practices.

Here are a few key points:

Rochester Nordic Racing Program Operating Plan: In order to adhere to the NY State guidelines for Phase 4 of reopening the economy, RNR will take the following measures:

    1. Keep training group size to groups of 10 or less.

    2. All training sessions, including strength training will occur outside.

    3. All athletes and coaches are expected to maintain a minimum distance of six feet between individuals.

    4. At each practice we will have a coach who is certified in First Aid and CPR and will carry a phone, first aid kit, and extra food and water during all training sessions.

    5. In the case of close interaction with coaches and athletes such as medical attention, coaches will be required to wear a mask and use gloves while interacting with the athlete.

Participant Expectations: In order to participate in RNR Nordic training sessions, athletes are expected to:

    1. Print and sign the RNR covid-19 waiver (Attached)

    2. Print and sign the RNR NYSSRA waiver (Attached)

    3. Be a current NYSSRA Nordic Member( https://www.skireg.com/nyssra-nordic-membership-110 )

    4. Complete the on-line google form ( https://forms.gle/op4WUuAtajW3NvuY9 )

    5. Avoid unnecessary risk to themselves or their teammates

    6. Maintain appropriate social distance while at practice

    7. Always carry water and a snack while at practice and avoid sharing with other teammates

    8. Stay at home if they are feeling sick

    9. Communicate with coaches if they begin to feel sick while at practice

Prep Team: June 29nd – August 12th Practice Monday and Wednesday 6:00-7:30 PM. The cost of the program is $325.00. Checks should be payable to Jason Hettenbaugh and are due the first night an athlete attends practice.

NO practice Monday July 6th

I will send additional information to athletes and parents who have filled out the on-line form on Friday June 26th.

Feel free to share this info with friends and teammates.

For those athletes who need to order rollerskis we have a team code this year to limit the exposure of having to handle a bunch of skis. Parents and athletes can visit www.enjoywinter.com to order skis. For skate skies I recommend either the skate elite or alutech skate with #2 wheels. Classic skis men should order fiberglass cap #2 wheels, women carbonfibre cap with #2 wheels, or alutech #2 wheels. They can also mount bindings for you. Use code JasonVIP3 at checkout which will give you team pricing 30% off. You can also use the code to order sunglasses or anything else you would like from the site.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
