Summer Registration 2019

Post date: May 20, 2019 12:57:26 PM

I’m excited to announce registration for the Rochester Nordic Racing Summer Program is now open!

The R.N.R summer program is a roller ski specific summer training program for athletes J3-U23 (8th grade- college). We have developmentally appropriate programs for all ages and abilities.

R.N.R has been able to be successful with the support of local athletes, high school coaches, and families. Last summer the program included high school athletes from Brighton, Fairport, HF-L, Pittsford, Irondequoit, and Webster. Over the past 10 years we have had a number of athletes move on to ski at the professional, Division I, II, and III level as well as USCSA club level. Many of them will be back this summer to continue to develop as well as lend a hand it coaching the next generation.

The winter of 2019 was one of the most successful winters on record for all of the athletes of the summer program. The easiest performance indicator for me to look at to gauge the success of the program is Sectionals. Sectionals is where all of the athletes in the Rochester area race each other in an attempt to qualify for the state championships. It's the one race where as many variables as possible are eliminated. This year R.N.R athletes had another successful race and the results indicate this.

Congratulations to Teddy and Grace for winning the overall championship. Since 2009 a Rochester Nordic Racing Athlete has won a Sectional Championship!! This is also the 7th time where both the men’s and women’s champion were part of the summer program. It’s pretty easy to see with those results that participation in a summer program is a key factor in winter success!

In addition to all of the success athletes were able to have on the local and state level the focus is always on the NATIONAL LEVEL. If your going to be successful at the national level your going to be successful on the local and regional level it’s part of the process. This has never been more clear than this year in respect to Grace Mattern and Anna Schriefer. They were able to push each other all year locally with a focus on Junior Nationals. The mass start classic race was where it all came together. Grace was able to finish 5th in the U16 race earning All-American Honors!! Anna was able to ski through the field and finish 16th in the U18 race. Grace is the 2nd R.N.R All-American following in the footsteps of 4x All American Gavin Hess.

R.N.R Alumni had some amazing results this winter as well. Leading the way was Adam Luban ( R.N.R, Middlebury, SVSEF ) Adam Luban finished 4th overall in the men's race at the Birkie and Hannah Cole ( R.N.R, HF-L, Williams, BSF ) was 6th overall in the women's race !! This was the first time participating in the Birkie for both of them!

Here is a rundown of the training groups that will be offered.
